It is not you that is messed up, it is them. There is a period of discovery where you feel like a crazy person and it is a relief to find out that you are not alone. Thank you for the support that this subreddit provided when I needed it. I could say so much more about what I found and what I have learned since.īeing a faithful latter day saint I never would have discovered a page like this while I was still in, but now that I'm out I hope that information and truth help set your minds at ease. I finally understood why at a not too long ago general conference there were shouts of "Nay" when it came to sustaining the prophet and leaders of the lds church. Not only do they own multiple large buildings in various cities, a hotel in Hawaii, they're the largest single land owner in Florida - I've also discovered that they are using temples and the land around the temples as their newest real estate development venture. I've always known that the lds church was a large real estate owner, but I had no idea by just how much. The church puts a dollar amount to those donated hours to raise the "donation" amount. The church has also gotten smarter and they pad those numbers using donated hours that the lds members give out of their own lives. These are not donations from tithing, they come from the lds philanthropies division that takes donations from wealthier church donors. The lds church says that it is generous in it's humanitarian aid and yet those donations all come from faithful latter day saints who donate that money out of their own pockets and not out of the church coffers. The lds church says it does one thing but the numbers show that it does the exact opposite. The unique thing about researching the finances of the church is that there is no faith promoting way to read the numbers. The popular phrase here is that I "shelved it" along with the many other questions I had about the church. I didn't want to jump to any conclusions so I let it sit. The whistle blower article about the lds church's 100 billion dollar investment fund had come out around December 2019 and I waited a whole year before looking into it. It was my first time doing a real unbiased deep dive into a question I had about the church. This time last year I went down the Mormon Rabbit Hole.
